Tip Tuesday - Find a Hobby (yes, really!)

There's no TOAST in sight after last weeks TOASTY TIP...oh wait...doh!

This week's top tip is less about what we eat and more about what we do...

Did you know, that people with hobbies are less likely to suffer from stress, low mood and depression?

No...you do not have to start knitting or playing dungeons and dragons (unless of course they totally float your boat!) Having a hobby is simply finding something that you love doing so much you could waste hours and hours doing it and completely lose yourself, to the point where real life seems to disappear and you are solely focus on the task in hand and everything else simply fades away.

Sounds good right? For years and years I didn't have a hobby. I tried a few things here and there but nothing really stuck. There was no real incentive for me, and everything I tried was more effort than fun and/or cost too much money. My husband is a musician and music is just 'in his bones'. He always suggested I should get a hobby but I just didn't know what, when, how etc. I was a bit of a 'Hobby Hoax' in my own mind. I thought perhaps there isn't one for me and I am far too busy to take any time out anyway...where on earth would I fit that into my life?!

Then one day, I stumbled across a paper craft group whilst looking for something completely different on YouTube. This was the best thing that could have happened for me and my mental health! I was intrigued and starting very low key and small, and now here I am, sat next to my craft desk with a whole host of crafty goodies surrounding me!!

When I found my hobby, the feeling was undeniable. I was wasting copious amounts of my time and energy creating things. I completely lost myself in a crafty haze and honestly, I felt like a child in a sweet shop. I was in my own little happy zone!

So my top tip this Tuesday, is try things and find your happy hobby. When you find 'your thing' you will know.

To help, I am in the process of creating an entire section on the Organise Happy website which will be dedicated to Hobbies of all kinds. This will be a safe online space for people to come together, chat about their passions and projects and even host online meetings. You can even join in for a trial and see if something is for you without having to leave the house or waste any money.

Watch this space....more details will follow in the coming months.
